ON CAMBODIA. (part deux)
Seeing the ruins of the Angkor temples is both a spiritual and humbling experience. Walking through hallways of ancient stone with their extensively embellished religious carvings, I am awestruck by the grandeur and power of human creation and imagination. I take a turn around the corner to an area of moss-covered rubble, where massive Banyan trees have swallowed and enveloped these once magnificent structures whole, their strong and unrelenting roots wrapped around walls of crumbling stone. Instantly, I am reminded of the insignificance of humanity against the forces of nature. I walk further down the corridors to the central sanctum of this once beautiful temple. Countless individuals have been here before me, their names eventually forgotten by time. You and I will be no different.
I have been searching for permanence my whole life—for a place to belong to, for a lover to come home to—but in my experience thus far, and ever more so now, permanence is all but an illusion. I am coming up to another end in that illusion in my life again, with the departure of someone in my life. But if being here in this magical moment has taught me anything, it is that life goes on past this.
When one door closes, another opens. This is merely another beginning.
Imagine yourself in a brand new place. It’s beautiful, you feel free, it feels like home. You can do anything and be anything because you have a gift- you are alive. You are breathing, you have eyes to see, thoughts to think (important thoughts this world needs). Nothing in the past can hold you back, as all of it has lead you right where you are.
You’re on a new road and you meet a stranger. “Hello, who are you?”. They ask. You are here to chase your dreams, to finally be who you want to be. So, who are you?
Here’s how I’d introduce myself:
Hi, I’m Michaela! I’m so excited to be here. I’m a life and empowerment coach. I believe I was put on this earth to teach others there is joy to be found. That we aren’t here on accident. That each moment matters, especially the most difficult ones. That even on someone’s worst day, they can find hope. I want the world to notice and feel the depth of sunsets, a gift we get every evening. I want people to believe in themselves. I want to change the world with changing the thoughts we think. And also, can you tell me where the nearest store is? I really want to pick up some @so_delicious Cashew Ice Cream to celebrate being here! 😂😘
... SPOILER ALERT... this is who I am. Whoever you want to be, you can be. You don’t need a new road or a new place. You have right here, right now.
